REPERTOIRE

  1. REPERTOIRE REQUIREMENTS
    • Pieces may be chosen from any recognized Canadian examination syllabus, however, the CMW Festival will use the current RCM Syllabus as a guideline for grading. Where a piece is graded at a different level by another syllabus, the RCM Syllabus will take precedence. Selections must be performed as listed, ie only one movement or piece from a collection unless otherwise noted in the Syllabus.
    • Student compositions are welcome. Pieces must be at the practical level of the student performing them. Grading will be based on the performance rather than the compositional elements, although the adjudicator may make comments at their discretion.
    • Pieces may also be chosen from collections not listed in a specific syllabus, in which case, the teacher must determine the level of the selection. However, if the adjudicator feels the piece is not appropriate for the registered level the performance may not be eligible for a scholarship or award.
    • To be eligible for scholarships or awards pieces in a given category must follow the above regulations. Exceptions will be arbitrated by the Committee.
    • It is the responsibility of the teacher/participant to ensure all entry information is correct; if a piece is entered in the wrong level, the performance will be heard and adjudicated but it will not be eligible for a scholarship or award.

    • Participants may enter only one class.
    • Participants who have passed the practical examination of the Royal Conservatory of Music (or equivalent) by August 31 must proceed to the next level or higher.
