CELEBRATION OF EXCELLENCE
RULES AND REGULATIONS
The Celebration of Excellence (COE) is an opportunity to showcase the hard work and dedication of students working with the BCRMTA Vancouver/Burnaby Branch members.
ELIGIBILITY

The COE Recital is open to students studying with a BCRMTA Vancouver/Branch member who have achieved 90% or higher in any practical discipline of a recognized exam system between January 1st, 2023 to December 31, 2023.

Participating teachers must be current members in good standing from:

the Vancouver/Burnaby BCRMTA branch, or
-
the Vancouver/Burnaby BCRMTA branch Student Teacher Auxiliary.

Participants may be students of any discipline from preparatory to senior levels, who are studying with an eligible teacher at the time of registration.

Students must register under the name of the teacher with whom they were studying when the exam results were achieved.

Proof of practical exam results must accompany the application; theory co-requisites are not required.

RCM Level 10 split examinations - both Part I and Part 2 must be completed; the date of the last exam must fall within the time frame noted above.

All trophy recipients will be eligible to perform in the recital. Other participating students will be selected to perform at the discretion of the recital convenor.

The teachers of successful applicants will be notified by the Recital Convenor.

GENERAL

Entries
-
No changes to repertoire will be allowed once entries have been submitted.

Late entries will not be accepted

Only one piano will be available on site.

Program
-
The COE recital program will be emailed to participating teachers for distribution to their students. It will also be posted on the COE main webpage. It is the responsibility of teachers and participants to check the program for their time.

There will be NO CHANGES to the time of any performance.

Spelling corrections will be accepted for 7 days after the program is sent to teachers. Corrections should be emailed to recital.bcrmta.vanbby@gmail.com

Teachers' Responsibilities

Teachers of participants are expected to assist during the recitals.
-
Information will be sent to the teacher once the entry deadline has passed.

Teachers are expected to notify students and parents that video taping or recording is allowed for their own children only. No video taping or recording of other performers is allowed. Pictures may be taken after the recital is finished.

Teachers are expected to instruct students on stage deportment (bow, walking, no running) and respectful behavior (no speaking or whispering during other performances).

PROCEDURES

Trophies and Awards
-
For each level of each instrument,
-
students who received the highest mark for the year will receive trophies, scholarships and certificates
-
students who received the 2nd highest mark for the year will receive trophies and certificates
-
all other qualifying COE students will receive recognition medallions and certificates
-

Trophies and scholarships will be presented at the end of the recital and can be accepted at that time by student recipients only. Teachers, parents, relatives or friends are ineligible to accept awards on behalf of the winners.

All trophy and scholarship winners are required to perform at the COE recital in order to qualify for receiving these awards. Those who fail to perform would be disqualified from the awards.

If there are unavoidable circumstances, the student's teacher will need to reach out to the recital convenor at recital.bcrmta.vanbby@gmail.com.

Emails from students/parents will not be answered.

Each situation will be reviewed by the recital committee on a case-by-case basis.

Students who are receiving medallions but are not available to attend the COE recital in-person must inform the recital convenor in advance. It will be the teacher's responsibilities to pickup medallions on behalf of their students from one of the BCRMTA Vancouver/Burnaby executives' residence on a designated date and time.

The branch will not mail out medallions to teachers or students.

Recital
-
All trophy recipients will be eligible to perform in the recital; other participating students will be selected to perform at the discretion of the recital convenor. The teachers of successful applicants will be notified by the Recital Convenor.

Eligible performer may play one piece or a single movement from a multi‐movement work.

The piece must be of the same level as the exam or higher
-
Time limits are in effect as follows:
-
Levels 1 to 7: maximum 3 minutes
-
Levels 8 to Diploma: maximum 6 minutes.

Memory is compulsory except the case of accompanists, who must bring original scores.
-
Participants must play without repeats except in the case of da capos.
-
OTHERS
-
Suitable dress is required. Appropriate attire is required for ALL performers: boys ‐ shirts, dress pants, dress shoes; girls ‐ shirts/blouses, dresses, dress pants, dress shoes. Performance will be prohibited if the dress code is not observed.

Participants must arrive 10-15 minutes ahead of the start of the recital.

Audience members are expected to stay for the duration of the recital.
