Student Performers’ Guild FestivaL

Registration Dates: December 15, 2024 – January 21, 2025 (10:00pm PST)

The Student Performers’ Guild Festival is an integral part of the Vancouver/Burnaby Branch. Its primary goal is to provide learning opportunities for students in a supportive and encouraging environment. Its secondary goal is to distribute scholarships and awards to deserving young musicians.

Registration is open to all students of the Vancouver/Burnaby Branch members as well as its STA members.

The SPG Festival is a workshop style festival, where students will get a chance to work with the adjudicator at the piano in front of the other students.

IMPORTANT – PLEASE READ

  1. Parents will be registering and paying entry fees for their children through individual accounts with the guidance of their teachers; therefore, it is essential that teachers read the 2025 SPG Rules and Regulation.
  2. It is the responsibility of the teacher/participant to ensure all entry information is correct. While the festival committee makes every effort to ensure all entries are in the correct class, we accept no responsibility if an entry has been made incorrectly – teachers are expected to check the confirmation emails sent to them by the SPG once their student has registered. If a piece is entered in the wrong level or category, the performance will be heard and adjudicated but no mark or rank will be awarded.
  3. Teacher’s confirmation emails from the SPG may end up in the spam/junk mail folders, so please check there for them.
  4. Adjudicator Assistants Requirement:
    • The SPG festival is a collaborative effort that relies on the support of branch members. The participation of teachers is essential and greatly appreciated.
    • In early February, participating teachers will receive an email notification and a link to the assistant sign-up sheet when the festival schedule is posted.
    • Each teacher must assist an adjudicator during one festival session. If a teacher is unavailable for any session in the sign-up schedule, they may arrange for a responsible substitute (such as a parent) to sign up to assist on their behalf. However, teachers may not ask students who are participating in the festival to serve as substitutes unless the students are non-competitive adult participants.
    • Each festival session requires two Adjudicator Assistants: a Primary and a Backup. All primary slots must be filled before the backup slots. If slots remain open after all teachers have signed up, those with the highest number of student entries may be asked to fill additional slots.
    • The Primary Assistant (either the teacher or their substitute) is expected to attend the session. If they become unavailable due to illness or an emergency, they must immediately inform both the Backup Assistant and the Adjudicator Assistants Coordinator.
    • The Backup Assistant must be available until the end of the session and be prepared to step in on short notice if needed.
    • Students of teachers who fail to assist or provide a substitute as required, or whose substitutes are absent, will not be eligible for scholarships, awards, and trophies. 
    • Please refer to the 2025 SPG Rules and Regulations for full details. 
  5. Beverley Kagnoff Award:
    • Each year, the Committee will select a class category in which $40 will be given to the highest mark for each level, 1 to 12.
    • For 2025, the class category will be TECHNICAL STUDIES.
  6. There is no piano warmup or tryout at the festival venue.
